PROFILES of two inspiring career transitions


Hey there!

It can be inspirational just to hear from someone else who has been in your shoes during any major transition. Someone who understands the perfectly logical fears you have, who can truly empathize with where you are, and yet help you summon your own courage to step more fully into who you're becoming.

Today, I'm featuring two daring career transition stories. One of a cop turned mindfulness meditation workshop leader who explains how she dealt with skepticism from others by using her own story, as well as dealing with her own insecurities after transitioning (yes guys your fears with this stuff doesn't magically go away after you transition they tend to morph into new ones). The second is of a woman who became an actress at 45. It's a great reminder of how your childhood passions can provide the gateway to clarity around the direction of your next big career move. Also, her story underscores how the next right action always emerges once you take the first courageous step, and  once people around you see your efforts they always shore up to support you.

Freedom's ties to job suffering


Freedom for me means the ability to wake up in the morning and freely decide what I'm going to do with my time and who I'm going to be in this world. We spend most of our days at work, and so if I work at a job that I hate, where I'm doing something that I don't want to do and where I can't be my best self, then even though I don't have shackles on my hands and feet how can I say that I'm really free. Many of us experience the progress of being in a job that kind of sucks, really sucks, and then becomes just excruciating to be at...yet we stay and suffer. We choose to suffer. We choose to suffer because we think we're too old to find something better, it's too soon to leave, we need the pay and we can't get that pay anywhere else etc. We make up millions of excuses to justify our choice to suffer.

I believe that our tolerance for suffering in any aspect of our lives in the modern world is way too high

We've bought into the notion that suffering is something we need to grit our teeth and bear. I believe any kind of suffering is an indication that we need to pay attention to our inner landscape and take drastic, consistent action to change our lives so that we can move from a state of suffering to a more beautiful state. The problem with grinding in your work

We live in a culture that has taught us that if we just run faster, harder, sleep less, and do more that that is how we'll win. We have to hustle, be on your grind they say. This Facebook live video explores why we must critique that notion and decide for ourselves whether healthy striving that is in alignment with our values and goals versus constant doing without alignment actually leads to meaningful productivity.

You Have it All! What More do You Want?

So you’ve vision boarded in your twenties, and you’ve manifested everything you ever wanted. Handsome husband, a home of your own, two children. YOU have it all! Right?? This is what our society would have us believe that these outer trappings of supposed adult success should equal deep fulfillment. The research around this is clear, NONE of this will make you happy or feel any sense of deep fulfillment but for some reason this message hasn’t translated  to us, and many young adult women are still chasing this carrot, and end up feeling confused by our disappointment when we don't get the sense of deep fulfillment we were told we would receive.

If you find yourself in this position, be grateful. Yes! be grateful that you’re at least conscious enough to recognize that in some ways you were exhausted from chasing your own happiness doggy tail. Well, what would make you happy? The answer is I don’t know, but the good news is you do, and now that you’ve stopped chasing that carrot, you can begin the self-inquiry that is absolutely necessary to get answers to that question.

Okay great, so you want to get answers to clear the confusion. The first question is, do you know HOW to mine these answers from yourself. If your answer is “Tajan, I have no clue what steps to take to do this kind of self-inquiry” then your choice is clear, do it in community with a guided process and leader who will create the space for you to get answers to your questions while not giving force to your fears. If you’re great at self-coaching then go ahead and do just that, check yourself into a retreat center, leave your cell phone behind, bring your journal with question prompts and sit on the beach and have a conversation with your inner guide. Now if the thought of that process seems like crazy-making and you feel like you’d be pulling your hair out on the beach with these journal questions, then you know for sure that what you really need is to join a community of women who are exactly where you are, women who know they want something more, but they just can’t put their finger on it and have committed to a guided process to find answers.

The Top 5 Limiting Beliefs that keep world changers stuck, stressed and swamped in their soul-sucking job (and how to overcome them)

Here’s the truth, many of you know what your professional calling is, and you definitely know that the job you’re in now is NOT it by any means, yet you stay right where you are. There are 5 common limiting beliefs that I have found keep world changers stuck at soul-sucking jobs that totally stress them out. Do any of these limiting beliefs listed below characterize you? If they do not to worry, I’ll get into what you can do to overcome them


1. “I can’t afford to get the kind of job I really love. I can’t get paid less than I do now”

Who says you’ll get paid less? You’re playing out the absolute worst-case scenario. You can overcome this belief by countering it with the best-case scenario. It is possible for you to make more money than you do right now.

2. “I’m too old/ too young/ too introverted/ not white etc. to switch jobs/careers right now”

This limiting belief is one that is common to all human beings and that is the belief that “I am not enough”. This fear is paralyzing and devastating at the same time. Reminding yourself of role models who’ve trail blazed in the space you’re interested in entering can be helpful, as well as affirming that you might actually be a pioneer in this space which is totally awesome..

3. “I don’t know what to do to make that leap” [so I’ll just do nothing]

The simple way to overcome this is to take massive action over and over again.If you don’t know what to do, get help from a life coach or helping professional who can co-create a plan to help you make that leap.

4. “Nothing’s perfect in life, my personal life is great so it’s totally fine for my professional life to suck. We all have to suck lemons somewhere.”

Our tolerance for suffering nowadays is way too high. We do have the potential in life to be joyful in every aspect of our lives including our professional lives. You never have to settle for mediocrity.

5. "What if I fail at it”

Trial and error is a crucial component of any self-discovery process. This is totally normal and will not compromise your dignity and integrity. You will fail forward, and learn more from your failures than your successes.
